THE NEW SCIENCE SHOWS FLUORIDE IS NOT SAFE There are strong Canadian connections with most of the following studies. Christine Till, who was the lead author of both the Green and Till studies, teaches at York University; Bruce Lanphear (co-author of the Green and Till studies), an American citizen who teaches at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver; and Howard Hu, the lead author of the Bashash studies, who did his research at the University of Toronto for many years. January, 2024, The LOTUS Study – With 6.4 million study subjects, this is the largest fluoride study ever conducted . Its aim was to determine the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of water fluoridation for adults and adolescents. Over 10 years, people receiving optimally fluoridated water experienced only a 2% reduction in the number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth, compared to those whose water was not fluoridated. The study found NO meaningful benefit to water fluoridation , nor any compelling evidence that water fluoridation reduced social inequalities in dental health. [ WATCH VIDEO -1:37 minutes ] January 2024: Fluoride exposure and thyroid hormone levels in pregnancy – This is the first study to investigate sex differences in the association between fluoride exposure and maternal thyroid hormone levels in pregnancy. It found that 1 mg/L increase in urinary fluoride was associated with a 35% increase in thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) among women pregnant with girls . Urinary fluoride concentration is an objective biomarker of short-term fluoride exposure. It allows for more precise estimates of fluoride intake from multiple sources. *The MIREC Study, which started in 2007, is an ongoing study to examine the effects of prenatal exposure to environmental chemicals on the health of pregnant women and their infants. November 2023: Systematic review of epidemiological and toxicological evidence on health effects of fluoride in drinking water – This Canadian study identifies both dental fluorosis and reduction in children's IQ scores as key endpoints for establishing a health-based value (HBV) for fluoride in drinking water. The authors state that neurodevelopmental cognitive effects may warrant special consideration in determining HBV. They suggest a “point of departure” of 1.56 mg/L for fluoride in drinking water for establishing a reference dose and public health safety guidelines, based only on the lowest-observed-adverse-effect level (LOAEL) for moderate and severe dental fluorosis. They do not address the potential impact on IQ scores. September, 2023 – A study by University of Calgary researchers found “poorer inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility” in preschool children whose mothers were pregnant during times when the water was fluoridated in Calgary, Canada. The authors said their tests measured “executive function deficits [that have been] consistently associated with behavioural and neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disability, and specific learning disorders” . Executive dysfunction disrupts the ability to manage thoughts, emotions, and actions, including the ability to pay attention, solve problems, listen, and multitask. Till et al., February 2023 – Professor Christine Till and PhD student Meaghan Hall found an association between fluoride exposure from tap water and hypothyroidism in pregnancy. They say this latest study may explain an earlier study looking at maternal fluoride exposure in pregnancy and lower IQ in boys. “The findings are concerning because hypothyroidism is a known cause of brain-based disorders in children,” says Till. Hall and Till say they hope that policy makers will consider this new research when evaluating the safety of community water fluoridation Well-designed prospective cohort studies funded by both the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences [NIEHS] in the USA as well as Health Canada, have shown a loss of IQ and increased symptoms of ADHD in offspring when pregnant women are exposed to fluoride at doses commonly experienced in fluoridated communities in Canada (Bashash, 2017, 2018 and Green, 2019). The consequences are shocking! According to Dr. Philippe Grandjean, from Harvard University, “Fluoride is causing a greater overall loss of IQ points today than lead, arsenic or mercury” , as detailed in this risk analysis . Till et al., 2020 have shown a large reduction in IQ when children were bottle-fed as babies in communities which were fluoridated, compared with babies who were bottle-fed in non-fluoridated communities. According to Linda Birnbaum, Ph.D., former Director of the U.S. NIEHS (2009-2019) and two leading public health researchers (Bruce Lanphear, MD, MPH, and Christine Till, PhD) who authored two key fluoride-IQ studies (Green, 2019 and Till, 2020), ingestion of fluoride during pregnancy confers no dental benefit to the fetus, so this is a situation where risks are being taken for no proven benefit ( see their editorial published in Environmental Health News, Oct 7 2020 ). An important well-conducted study from Sweden has shown an increased prevalence of hip fracture in post-menopausal women associated with long term exposure to natural fluoride at levels in water in the same range as Canada fluoridates its water [ Helte et. al., 2021 ] . This is very serious because, as you probably know, hip fractures in the elderly are debilitating, costly to treat, lead to a loss of independence and often shortens the life of those impacted. This finding also underlines the fact that fluoride can impact our health over a whole lifetime of exposure. OTHER WELL-RESPECTED SCIENCE These icons will reveal the following scientific studies from the years 2000 and 2015: A letter from the chair of the advisory panel for the year 2000 British York Review followed by the complete review which at the time was considered the most rigorous and respected scientific review on the effects of water fluoridation. FLUORIDATION DR. BOB SPEAKS OUT ON ANOTHER RUMBLE PODCAST Dr. Bob Dickson, Chair of Fluoride Free Canada and Founder of Safe Water Calgary, provides an illuminating overview of the current situation with the US Court Case against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He also discusses the most recent Health Canada report on fluoridation. FEBRUARY 29, 2024— I met with my Calgary doctor friend again to discuss this issue that he has been working on for 25 years. Fluoride. Dr. Bob used to be a proponent for fluoride in the water until activists had him look at a study back in 1998. I joke that after he realized his mistake, he was like an ex-smoker. Tenacious! He has been trying to expose the lies for 25 years! They were successful in turning off the taps on fluoride in Calgary in 2011. The "fluoridians" fought back and in 2021, they won a plebiscite to put fluoride back into Calgary water. The costs to bring back neurotoxins is starting at about $28 million dollars. To this Calgarian, I believe that the cost is too high for adding this known toxin to all the water of 1.3 million people. Dr. Bob and I discuss the dumbing down and damaging effects this will have on generations of children for tiny benefits. Get involved. Do your research. —Bruce Scholl, Unscrew the News Podcast IS FLUORIDE SAFE & EFFECTIVE? FEBRUARY, 2024 By Robert C Dickson MD, CCFP, FCFP In this article published by DRUTHERS , Dr. Dickson summarizes the history and challenges of water fluoridation and why fluoridation is NOT safe. "I am a medical doctor, and I strongly oppose artificial water fluoridation. It is said that if a lie or mistruth is repeated often enough, it will finally be accepted as true. Such is the case with the oft-stated mantra of the pro-fluoridationists, persisting for eight decades now—water fluoridation is ‘safe and effective’. Today, we hear that mantra repeated recklessly, across many forums, for entities and treatments that are neither." DR. BOB DICKSON, FOUNDER OF SAFEWATERCALGARY IS INTERVIEWED ON A RUMBLE.COM PODCAST History and current status of Calgary's fluoridation, containing excellent advice and tips for everyone! AUGUST, 2023—Dr. Robert C. (Bob) Dickson was born in Tofield, Alberta in 1951. He has a degree in Physical Education, an MD from the University of Calgary, and certification in Paramedics from SAIT in Calgary. Dr. Bob is past President of Change for Children , past President Tools for Peace , and past Chair of the Board of Directors of Arusha Cross Cultural Centre . He was a senior partner with Results Canada , with a mandate to end starvation, debilitating diseases and poverty globally for many years. He was instrumental with RESULTS Canada in mandating that maternal and child health be the signature initiative of the 2010 G8/G20 forum in Toronto, and in the ensuing announcements of $1.1 billion and later $3.4 billion for maternal and child health committed by the Canadian government for these programs. As well, he volunteers with Medical Mercy Canada , most recently in Thailand with the Burmese refugees and in Nepal, and is on the board of the Four Worlds Centre for International Development . Dr. Dickson co-led the anti-fluoridation program in Calgary from 1999 which resulted in water fluoridation being halted in 2011, and continues to actively volunteer with the issue of artificial water fluoridation. He is the founder of Safe Water Calgary , and launched their new website www.safewatercalgary.com in 2017. Dr. Dickson is also the chair of Fluoride Free Canada www.fluoridefreecanada.ca Dr. Bob has actively partnered with Project Ixcanaan since 2003 to rebuild and support the remote village of El Remate in the Peten province of northeastern Guatemala. He has worked on climate change issues with 4 C (Calgary Citizens on Climate Change ), meeting and interacting frequently with elected officials and senior administrators in the Calgary civic and provincial governments. 4 C hosted a successful federal Climate Change Forum, has authored White Papers on climate issues, and brought George Marshall from Climate Outreach in the UK to Calgary for a series of workshops to promote respectful communication. Dr Bob is the proud father of Luke, a resident of Calgary as well. Bob also travels extensively, has an admitted golf addiction, bikes and is an avid pickleball player and dancer. He retired from his family practice in NW Calgary in 2013 but still maintains an active medical licence as of 2023 and works minor emergency shifts when back from his travels. READ MORE...including those organizations opposing fluoridation... FLUORIDE 101: A RESPONSE TO DR. WU OUTDATED, UNNECESSARY AND DANGEROUS Water fluoridation is the practice of adding industrial-grade fluoride chemicals to water for the purpose of preventing tooth decay. One of the little known facts about this practice is that the United States, which fluoridates over 70% of its water supplies, has more people drinking fluoridated water than the rest of the world combined. Most developed nations , including all of Japan and 97% of western Europe , do not fluoridate their water. In the United States, the Oral Health Division of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) hails fluoridation as one of the “top ten public health achievements of the 20th century.” However, comprehensive data from the World Health Organization reveals that there is no discernible difference in tooth decay between the minority of western nations that fluoridate water, and the majority that do not. In fact, the tooth decay rates in many non-fluoridated countries are now lower than the tooth decay rates in fluoridated ones. As is becoming increasingly clear, fluoridating water supplies is an outdated, unnecessary, and dangerous relic from a 1950s public health culture that viewed mass distribution of chemicals much differently than scientists do today. The few nations that still fluoridate their water should end the practice. Below are three reasons why... THREE REASONS TO END WATER FLUORIDATION REASON #1: Fluoridation Is an Outdated Form of Mass Medication Unlike all other water treatment processes, fluoridation does not treat the water itself, but the person consuming it. The Food & Drug Administration acc epts that fluoride is a drug , not a nutrient, when used to prevent disease. By definition therefore, fluoridating water is a form of medication . This is why most western European nations have rejected the practice — because in their view, the public water supply is not an appropriate place to be adding drugs , particularly when fluoride is readily available for individual use in the form of toothpaste. REASON #2: Fluoridation Is Unnecessary and Ineffective The most obvious reason to end fluoridation is that it is now known that fluoride’s main benefit comes from topical contact with the teeth, not from ingestion . Even the CDC’s Oral Health Division now acknowledges this. There is simply no need therefore, to swallow fluoride, whether in the water, toothpaste, or any other form. Further, despite early claims that fluoridated water would reduce cavities by 65%, modern large-scale studies show no consistent or meaningful difference in the cavity rates of fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas. REASON #3: Fluoridation Is Not a Safe Practice The most important reason to end fluoridation is that it is simply not a safe practice, particularly for those who have health conditions that render them vulnerable to fluoride’s toxic effects. First, there is no dispute that fluoridation is causing millions of children to develop dental fluorosis , a discoloration of the teeth that is caused by excessive fluoride intake. Scientists from the Centers for Disease Control have even acknowledged that fluoridation is causing “cosmetically objectionable” fluorosis on children’s front teeth — an effect that can cause children embarrassment and anxiety at an age when physical appearance is the single most important predictor of self-esteem. Second, it is known that fluoridated water caused severe bone disease in dialysis patients up until the late 1970s (prior to dialysis units filtering fluoride). While dialysis units now filter out the fluoride, research shows that current fluoride exposures are still resulting in dangerously high bone fluoride levels in dialysis patients and patients with other advanced forms of kidney disease . It is unethical to compromise the health of some members in a population to obtain a purported benefit for another — particularly in the absence of these vulnerable members’ knowing consent. And, finally, a growing body of evidence reasonably indicates that fluoridated water, in addition to other sources of daily fluoride exposure, can cause or contribute to a range of serious effects, including arthritis , damage to the developing brain , reduced thyroid function, and possibly osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in adolescent males. STATEMENT IN OPPOSITION TO ARTIFICIAL WATER FLUORIDATION BY SAFE WATER CALGARY — JULY, 2019 Safe Water Calgary , in collaboration with scientists, researchers, physicians, toxicologists, and dentists across North America, Australia, Ireland, and the UK released a Statement in Opposition to Artificial Water Fluoridation in July 2019 to refute the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) report “Community Water Fluoridation Programs: A Health Technology Assessment” , published earlier that year. Available also is the Executive Summary : Statement in Opposition to Artificial Water Fluoridation - Executive Summary . This statement was released in response to the Community Water Fluoridation - A Report for City Council in July, 2019 by the O’Brien Institute for Public Health (OIPH) regarding the potential benefits and risks of artificial water fluoridation, and as directed by a Notice of Motion brought forward to City Council by Councillor Colley-Urquhart in February, 2019. TAKE ACTION A STATEMENT FROM SAFE WATER CALGARY Who We Are and What We Beli ev e Artificial water fluoridation is a serious public health threat to many Calgarians. And to citizens in Edmonton, Toronto, and Regina. It’s not just Alberta, and it’s not just Canada’s problem. Fluoridation’s well-documented health risks are not confined by provincial or national borders. The best studies published in the world’s leading journals, provide solid scientific evidence that it can significantly lower IQ in children . Many of these studies have been led by Canadian scientists. Fluoride is a known neurotoxin and an endocrine disruptor that can exacerbate diabetes, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, bone fractures and many other harmful conditions, whether in Calgary, New York, or Sydney. Most nations and cities have long rejected or not even considered fluoridation. 95% of the world’s people drink unfluoridated water, 97% in Europe , where numerous countries prohibit it, including France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands. In Canada, both British Columbia and Quebec are 98% fluoridation-free , and there is no evidence they have higher cavity rates than provinces with higher fluoridation rates. We’re proud to work with other advocates across Canada and all over the world. We’re helping to protect health, wherever you live, whatever political party you belong to and whatever you believe about other controversial topics. We're an all-volunteer grassroots organization where people who may not agree on other issues have come together. We unite people. We don’t divide them. We recognize fluoridation’s health risks and the simple truth that it’s totally misguided to put ANY drug into drinking water . It is also highly unethical, hurting those who are least able to protect themselves. It’s minimally effective if at all, and low-income families cannot afford expensive filters or bottled water to avoid it. They have no choice but to expose themselves and their children to this hazardous chemical. Artificial water fluoridation is Safe Water Calgary's only issue. We won't be distracted by others. We unapologetically accept support from people everywhere to help protect Calgarians from this egregious practice, just as we will support people in other communities around the world. We're all in this great cause together. We believe most people who support artificial water fluoridation are well-intended, including those in authority positions. Unfortunately, they are underinformed or misinformed about its serious health risks and ineffectiveness. We at Safe Water Calgary will take the high road and not resort to personal attacks. However, we will challenge anyone when misinformation is disseminated. We will continue to speak truth to power until this outdated and dangerous practice is ended . Review References for this Mailer Review References for this Mailer OUR CAMPAIGN SAFE WATER CALGARY’S TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO FLUORIDATE Fluoride is a proven neurotoxin and is one of the most toxic substances on the planet, more toxic than lead and almost as toxic as arsenic! NOT what we want to add to our pristine public water! Fluoride and fluoridation are most harmful to babies, children, the disadvantaged, the poor and people of colour. Fluoride is NOT a vitamin or nutrient, and is NOT needed for a single body function. 99% of fluoridated water is used to water lawns, flush toilets, shower and bath, and also by industry; then flushed into our ecosystems mostly unchecked. This is NOT green. Water fluoridation does NOT make economic sense in good economic times and most certainly not in tough, tight economies. 98% of British Columbia, 98% of Quebec, 97% of Europe and 95% of our world do NOT fluoridate. Non-fluoridated areas are in the vast majority! Skyrocketing fluorosis is the first visible sign of overdosing and toxicity. It is highly unethical to mass medicate, especially without informed consent, monitoring or follow up. Politicians should NOT mass medicate, nor should citizens vote by plebiscite on who should be medicated. Choice is of utmost importance!! CENTRES FOR DISEASE CONTROL (CDC) From here you can link to a document from the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) with a link to the original web page & highlighted text demonstrating how the CDC basically covers themselves from any liability in the event that babies fed formula mixed with fluoridated water develop dental fluorosis. At the end of the CDC document is a note from Citizens for Safe Water specifying that even though the CDC and Health Canada claim that significant degrees of dental fluorosis occur in less than 5% of the population, two of the most rigorous systematic reviews on the effects of water fluoridation (2000 York Review and 2015 Cochrane Review ) found that the degrees of dental fluorosis characterized by permanent staining to more than 50% of the teeth surfaces (moderate fluorosis, considered to be more than a minor cosmetic effect) develops in 12% of kids growing up in fluoridated regions. The Cochrane review went on to say that 40% of the children growing up in fluoridated regions will develop mild degrees of fluorosis and, contrary to what some uninformed dentists claim, published research indicates that the areas of enamel on fluorosis teeth are more weak and prone to flaking . • Supplements | Safe Water Calgary

FLUORIDE SUPPLEMENTS Dentists cannot prescribe any amount of a fluoride supplement to babies 6 months or younger and a maximum of 0.25 mg of a fluoride supplement to babies between 6 months and 3 years. Fluoridated water = 0.7ppm = 0.7mg / l = 0.23 mg fluoride in a regular glass of water (333 ml) , which means that fluoridated water results in bottle fed babies, children and people of all ages ingesting amounts of fluoride that surpass the daily limits of fluoride supplements that Canadian and US dentists can prescribe to people living in non-fluoridated areas. As the CDA and ADA texts stipulate, before a US or Canadian dentist can prescribe fluoride supplements, the dentist must first: Assess their patients dental caries risks (diet, oral hygiene habits, etc.) Ensure that their patient is consuming non-fluoridated water with naturally low levels of fluoride. Assess the patient’s overall daily exposure to fluoride from toothpaste, mouthwashes and foods & drinks. TAKE HOME MESSAGES When dentists or doctors endorse water fluoridation, they are encouraging a practice that results in children and adults receiving more daily fluoride than a dentist or doctor can prescribe in the form of oral fluoride supplements. Contrary to administering fluoride through public water, prescribing oral fluoride supplements requires: Individual assessment of dental caries risk Individual assessment of overall daily fluoride exposure levels Dosage monitoring CONSENT FINAL NOTE People who truly want to swallow daily fluoride can get a prescription and purchase a year's supply of fluoride supplements for as little as $13.

  • Ethical Dilemma | Safe Water Calgary

ETHICAL DILEMMA Water is a basic need. Chemicals added to water to treat the water's safety is one thing. Chemicals added to water to "treat" the people drinking the water is another thing. Not only is there no way to control the dose for a drug once added to public water, but this practice also denies people's right to consent. Even with toothpaste, people can choose fluoridated or non-fluoridated toothpaste. For babies, fluoridated toothpaste companies specifically offer non-fluoridated toothpaste choices that are marketed as safe to swallow. Unlike the 1960s, conventionally grown and especially processed foods and drinks now contain significant amounts of fluoride due to the common use of phosphate fertilizer, fluoride based pesticides, and the processing of foods and drinks with fluoridated water. Add the amounts of fluoride people absorb from fluoridated dental products, and this is why published research shows that children living in regions without fluoridated water are often already ingesting too much fluoride. A nd for people who truly want their children and themselves swallowing more fluoride, prescription fluoride supplements are available for $13 per year. If we truly want public health measures that reduce tooth decay among the financially disadvantaged, elderly and general population, our public health associations need to roll up their sleeves and provide effective programs such as the Scottish Child Smile program , who have been successfully lowering tooth decay — particularly in deprived communities — without adding any fluoride to their water. THE HEALTH IMPLICATIONS Dental fluorosis and skeletal weakness Children develop dental fluorosis by ingesting too much fluoride between 0 and 8 years of age. It doesn't matter if the fluoride comes from foods and drinks due to pesticides or processing, or toothpaste, or fluoridated water etc. Those with dental fluorosis have higher bone fractures as well as higher rates of learning disabilities. Thyroid issues Thyroid medication is the third most prescribed medication to Canadian women, because fluoride is displacing iodine on the cell's receptors. Study shows that adults living in Canada who have moderate-to-severe iodine deficiencies and higher levels of urinary fluoride may be at an increased risk for underactive thyroid gland activity. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Paul Connett interviews Dr. A. K. Susheela from India, who discusses how ingesting fluoride irritates the stomach lining, leading to IBS. She discovered that from the moment you eliminate fluoride, the gastrointestinal mucosa and the microvilli will regenerate within 10-12 days. Canada has one of the highest prevalence of IBS in the world – estimated 18% vs. 11% globally. ( Lovell et al. 2012 ). ADHD medication in Canada is the number one prescribed medication to boys and girls 6 to 14 years of age and the second most prescribed medication to males between the ages of 15 to 24, according to a June, 2014 Statistics Canada report .

  • Fluoride in Processed Food | Safe Water Calgary

FLUORIDE IN PROCESSED FOOD & DRINK THREE MAIN REASONS Conventionally Grown and Especially Processed Food & Drink Now Contain so much Fluoride Published Data: Children Overexposed: Unfluoridated Regions Fluoride based pesticides such as cryolite (sodium hexafluoroaluminate) and fumigation products such as sulfuryl fluoride are commonly used in industrial farming. The more the fruit, vegetable, grain, dried fruit, seed or nut are sprayed with fluoride pesticides and/or fumigation products, the more the food will contain fluoride ions which cannot be washed off and will enter your body when you eat these foods or anything made with these foods. The processing of foods, drinks, soups etc. with fluoridated water in fluoridated regions such as Ontario, Alberta and many US states results in these items containing significant amounts of fluoride. The levels of fluoride in these products vary depending upon a number of factors such as how much fluoridated water is used, the degree to which the volume of the product is diminished from cooking, dehydration etc., the amount of fluoride the foods originally contained from any treatment with fluoride pesticides and/or if they were grown in phosphate fertilizer. The widespread use of phosphate fertilizer is another way fluoride levels have increased in conventionally grown foods. Compared to traditional and modern organic soils, phosphate fertilizer, which is made from phosphate rock, contains much higher levels of fluoride which can be absorbed into the foods growing in this fertilizer. Unlike pesticides and fumigation products which are sprayed directly on the foods, absorption of fluoride from phosphate fertilizer varies depending upon the plant. Tea plants, for example, are known for absorbing the highest amounts of fluoride from their soil. Tea plants deposit the absorbed fluoride in their leaves which is why teas are exceptionally high in fluoride. A cup of your average black tea will contain up to 5-times the amount of fluoride found in fluoridated water. The older the tea leaf, the higher the amount of fluoride, which is why bottled Ice Teas commonly contain up to 9-times the amount fluoride found in fluoridated water. As demonstrated in the section Inconsistencies and Contradictions , US & Canadian dental and public health associations acknowledge these other sources of fluoride when providing guidelines for safe daily fluoride exposure from toothpaste, mouthwash, prescription fluoride supplements , and baby formula which all result in lower daily fluoride exposure than fluoridated water.

  • Copy of Mineral or Drug? | Safe Water Calgary

MINERAL OR DRUG? For a list of references cited in these videos please Click here As demonstrated in the videos and supporting sources (see icon links), when a dental or public health association claim that adding a fluoridation chemical to public water is simply adding a natural mineral they are engaging in inaccurate and misleading rhetoric. FURTHER ELABORATION Even if the fluoride ion could be considered a mineral, that would not mean that it is necessarily beneficial for the body. Most minerals are not nutrients. (see Minerals By Name ). In fact many naturally occurring minerals like lead and mercury are considered toxic at all doses. It is true that in nature the fluoride ion is often part of the non-nutrient mineral Calcium Fluoride , a substance that is highly stable, safe to hold, practically insoluble and hardly digestible due to the very strong bond between fluoride and calcium. But when the dilution of a man-made fluoridation chemical or geological activity leads to dissociated fluoride ions in water ready to bond with an atom or molecule, such fluoride ions are not minerals. From a non-nutrient mineralogy perspective, dissociated fluoride ions in water could be described as trace non-nutrient mineral elements, but it is more precise to simply describe them as the ionic or salt form of the basic element (atom) fluorine which is the most reactive atom (element) in the periodic table which means that fluorine / fluoride is capable of chemically bonding with the greatest number of other atoms. ( Ref 1 , Ref 2 ) The incredible reactivity of fluorine / fluoride is why so many biochemists, chemists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, physiologists, physicians and even dentists describe it as an enzyme disruptor capable of chronic adverse affects to the developing brain, thyroid gland, stomach, connective tissues, bones and kidneys. Definition of a drug The FDA: Is Fluoride a Drug Definition: Chronic Toxicity Natural Calcium Fluoride & Man-Made Industrial Fluoride It’s hard to say with absolute certainty why the public health associations in the US, Canada and five other developed nations continue to ignore and dismiss all the published research including the most respected systematic reviews conducted on water fluoridation whenever, such research even slightly disagrees with their policies. Here’s what we can say: Many of these dental & public health agencies made mistakes in the past when, for decades, they ignored and dismissed published research demonstrating the chronic toxicity of tobacco, lead, mercury, asbestos and other substances. As for water fluoridation, the public health agencies that continue to promote this practice consistently dismiss and ignore any data that disagrees with their policies including the fact that even without any fluoride added to drinking water, most people are already ingesting more fluoride on a daily basis than these agencies deem safe due to: The amounts of fluoride in conventionally grown and especially processed foods and drinks due to: The widespread use of phosphate fertilizer since the '70s The widespread use of fluoride-based pesticide since the '70s The processing of foods and drinks with fluoridated water since the '80s And the widespread availability of fluoridated toothpastes, mouthwashes, dental gels, foams, varnishes, and oral fluoride supplements. Until the 1970s, none of these other sources of fluoride were widely available. Educated critics of water fluoridation point out that due to the widespread use of fluoride pesticides, the processing of foods and drinks with fluoridated water, and the use of fluoridated toothpastes, even without fluoride added to water, many children are already receiving too much fluoride when all sources of fluoride are taken into consideration . If you’ve read this far , and are taking the time to verify the validity and credibility of the data presented in this website, you may be starting to understand why the majority of developed nations do not fluoridate water and why, since the year 2000, over 350 municipal regions in North America have chosen to disagree with their public health services and stopped fluoridating the water their citizens rely on for drinking, cooking and bathing .

MINERAL OR DRUG? As demonstrated in the videos and supporting sources (see icon), when a dental or public health association claim that adding a fluoridation chemical to public water is simply adding a natural mineral, they are engaging in inaccurate and misleading rhetoric. Natural Calcium Fluoride & Man-Made Industrial Fluoride It is true that in nature the fluoride ion is often part of the non-nutrient mineral Calcium Fluoride , a substance that is highly stable, safe to hold, practically insoluble and hardly digestible due to the very strong bond between fluoride and calcium.
